Why God Created Roaches

I am sitting in my room, filled with old pizza boxes and cartons of Chinese food. The smell is pretty rank, but I don’t mind. I live alone in a tiny room at the top of the stairs. It can get pretty hot up here, but I don’t mind that either.

I share my living quarters with some uninvited guests and them I do mind. Cockroaches are crawling all over everything. Well, I guess a little of that could be my fault. After all, as I said, it’s pretty rank up here and they have lots of food to eat. My room must seem like a paradise to them. At least it’s a paradise to somebody, because it sure isn’t to me.

Anyway, I am just sitting here watching the roaches take what they want from my leftovers. Just scuttling around as roaches do, thinking that they own the place. Some of this stuff has been here for months. It’s a wonder it doesn’t get up and run screaming from my little friends.

When I start to think about it, roaches have been here a long, long time. Why did God create roaches? He made them first. Does that mean he likes them better? That may be so. Cockroaches have been through many a tough situation here on earth. They made it through all kinds of upheavals and climate changes. They made it through whatever killed the dinosaurs and I am convinced that they will survive whatever it is that is going to kill us. And we will die. If it’s not from a nuclear accident or threat, it may be some kind of biological toxin. We won’t last too much longer I don’t think.

We, mere earthlings that we are will die, and the lowly cockroach will live another day to infest, reproduce and just keep on trucking. I don’t know what their exact purpose is. They don’t do anything to contribute. But here they are, ancient in DNA and gross to the eyesight. Why did god create roaches? Is it like ha on you for who ever is co-existing with them at the time?

It is kind of like some cruel joke. Here we are trying to learn everything there is to know about nature and outer space, and we can be easily taken out by our own kind. Cockroaches do nothing except eat and reproduce and they will go on and on and on. It just doesn’t seem fair. God must think he is a real funny guy. I just wish he’d let me in on the joke.
